Human Rights Day

Liberty on Human Rights Day below.

Today is Human Rights Day.

It is a day of global unity, commemorating the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

This year it feels particularly pertinent given the passing of Nelson Mandela last Thursday, who gave his life to the struggle for equality and human dignity.

“To deny people their human rights is to challenge their very humanity.”  Nelson Mandela, 1918 – 2013

Be sure to look out for our Human Rights Day advert (pictured above) in a number of national and regional newspapers. Please share it on Facebook and Twitter to spread your support for human rights.

If you work with young people, you might be interested in requesting a copy of our Human Rights Resource Pack, a publication designed to inspire and inform young people about human rights. You can do this by emailing schools@liberty-human-rights.org.uk

Liberty believes in fundamental rights and freedoms – shared values that protect every member of the human family and the society we seek to build together. Human rights are about dignity, equality and respect. These values are common to us all no matter how different we may seem.

In the UK the Human Rights Act protects us all – help us defend it.
