Warriors for Women Yoga helps refugees

adminUncategorizedLeave a Comment

Warriors for Women is Ourmala’s first ever week of fundraising Yoga events coinciding with Refugee Week, 15-21st June. Bringing together Yoga teachers and studios from London to Ibiza, Portugal to Texas  in support of refugee and asylum-seeking women rebuilding their lives in London. Full list of events here.

100% of funds raised will enable Ourmala to reach more women, providing free Yoga and English classes, hot lunch and nutritional advice, and access to other services, education and opportunities.

“Most of the women we serve live with physical and mental pain, insomnia, anxiety, depression and great uncertainty about the future,” says Emily Brett, Ourmala’s founding CEO and yoga teacher. “Malnourishment, unstable accommodation and isolation are also common issues. Yoga is empowering and stabilising. It can help to reduce pain, sleep and confidence, enabling practitioners to lead more active lives. Ourmala’s services also provide a much needed sense of belonging for our service users.”

Generally living in poverty, most refugee and asylum-seeking women are not able to access mainstream Yoga classes. Ourmala refunds the cost of travel and all services are free. Our Yoga teachers are trained with specialist skills and our classes are appropriate for survivors of torture, war, gender based violence and trauma.

Ourmala thanks all our supporters and Warriors for Women participants.
