Story so far

It’s only September and we’ve achieved a lot. And we have a lot more to do. Here’s some highlights from our 2017 so far. Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported us.

237 people have been able to practice yoga with OURMALA – 100 of these are young people (under 18) seeking asylum

We support clients that originate from a range of countries, including: Albania, Eritrea, Iran, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka and Uganda

We renamed the Mums and Babies Group ‘Happy Baby Project‘ – our weekly Monday community now hosts 76 women who are pregnant or with a child under 3. We don’t just provide a yoga practice at the HBP; we offer English lessons, a hot, fresh and nutritious lunch, peer support counselling, welfare advice and any useful products that get donated to us (these usually include sanitary towels, nappies and baby baskets with fresh blankets)

With the range of services that we offer, 13 people have accessed the English language learning programme and 50 have accessed our critical resources

We have launched Yoga for OURMALA community classes with lululemon, The Life Centre, Hot pod Yoga and The Shala. The generous studios hold a regular class in the weekly schedule and donate the proceeds of the Yoga for OURMALA class to us.

We have been fortunate enough to receive funding from the European Union and Big Lottery and increasing support from the community.

…and we have been in the news: Stylist, The Independent, BBC Radio 4 and the London Evening Standard have all ran stories about our mission.

We are holding a special public event on Saturday 30th September with lululemon. OURMALA |Here to Be will offer yoga, meditation and access to the Migration Museum’s new exhibition. You can buy tickets here.
